How to use the calculator
Footfall
Count everyone who passes the machine on a typical day: staff, members, guests and visitors. Be honest; a conservative figure makes a better plan.
People who buy
Most well-placed machines sell to 2–4% of footfall. Captive audiences (gyms, night shifts, student blocks) often do better.
Average spend
A typical basket is £1.80–£2.80. Protein, energy drinks and essentials push it higher; basket mode on touchscreens helps too.
Gross margin
What's left after the cost of stock. 45–55% is typical for snacks and drinks bought at wholesale.
